Electrical Stimulation Therapy

Electrical Stimulation Therapy, also known as Neuromuscular or Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), is a form of physical therapy that complements your adjustment. An electrical current travels from the device to your muscles to elicit a contraction. Applying this electrical current helps strengthen muscles, block pain signals, and improve blood circulation making it a great adjunctive therapy to promote healing. EMS therapy typically is utilized in your initial (pain) phase, to reduce inflammation along with temperature modalities such as cold or heat.

Benefits of Electrical Stimulation Therapy

Research has shown that EMS therapy effects are short-lived, for which it is mainly utilized as adjunctive therapy, making it an excellent complement to your adjustment.

Some of the benefits of Electrical Stimulation Therapy are:

  • Decrease inflammation and edema
  • Build muscle strength and endurance
  • Manage and minimize pain
  • Improve blood circulation
  • Muscle re-education and strengthening
  • Increase range of motion
  • Decrease muscle spasms

RISKS OF ELECTRICAL STIMULATION THERAPY

Even though EMS therapy risks are considerably low, it may not be for everyone.
EMS should be avoided when the patient has/suffers from:

  • Active blood clots
  • Cancerous lesions at the site of treatment
  • Superficial metal (e.g. staples, pins, external fixators)
  • Cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator
  • Seizures
  • Sensory deficits at the site of treatment

AVOID STIMULATION IF:

  • Carotid sinus/anterior transcervical area
  • Heart transthoracic area
  • Abdominal, low back, and pelvic area during pregnancy

It is extremely important that your chiropractor performs an in-depth consultation and evaluation to determine the best approach for your care and to cater your treatment to your specific condition and needs.

pain relief and management

The chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is a procedure in which your chiropractor provides a quick thrust to a specific joint to restore its mobility. By removing spinal restrictions, the body can heal naturally and optimally.

Chiropractic care is for EVERYONE. It’s an effective treatment option for children and adults alike. The most common age range for patients to seek chiropractic care is between 45 and 64 years old, however, recently there has been a population shift. People have been proactively seeking holistic and alternative care as well as getting involved in a healthier lifestyle early on, for which the age range has become even wider, including the younger generation. Your chiropractor will perform a full evaluation to determine the best approach for your care and will cater your treatment to your specific condition and needs.

At Chiropracticly Healthy, we strive to make your experience unique and memorable, tailored to your particular condition. To get you started, we will collect some personal information. We will need you to bring a few documents:

  • Driver’s License or a form of identification
  • Any medical documentation related to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition, if available (medication list, hospital discharge paperwork, imaging reports, etc.)
  • Accident/Injury claims forms and paperwork, if available

After collecting your demographic information, you will be required to complete documentation that will give us a better understanding of your present complaint and past medical history. Once your intake documentation is completed, you will watch a short video that will give you a better understanding of what chiropractic care is and what we can do to help.
The doctor will then proceed to complete your consultation, and then your full examination. Your examination will include observation, palpation, range of motion evaluation, orthopedic testing as needed, as well as muscle and dermatomal testing. This comprehensive evaluation, as well as in-depth postural analysis, will give us the tools to design your customized treatment plan.

The doctor will go over your consultation and examination findings with you, to discuss the plan through journey Destination Wellness, the day after your initial visit. Then, the doctor will proceed with your first adjustment and treatment. During your first treatment, the doctor might use different techniques to achieve the adjustment’s main goal – give motion back to your joints, to allow your body to heal better; at which point you might hear a “popping” sound. You’ve likely seen videos of adjustments with an abundance of loud pops and cracks. During your adjustment, small spaces open up in your joints, encouraging the release of pressure, thus allowing enough space for Nitrogen Oxide gas to escape. This satisfying noise is called Joint Cavitation.

Actually no, the effectiveness of your adjustment relies on the skills of your chiropractor, and the absence of the sound doesn’t mean something went wrong. We cannot wait to help you through your journey to Wellness and a better quality of life!
