pain relief and management

The chiropractic adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is a procedure in which your chiropractor provides a quick thrust to a specific joint to restore its mobility. By removing spinal restrictions, the body can heal naturally and optimally.

Chiropractic care is for EVERYONE. It’s an effective treatment option for children and adults alike. The most common age range for patients to seek chiropractic care is between 45 and 64 years old, however, recently there has been a population shift. People have been proactively seeking holistic and alternative care as well as getting involved in a healthier lifestyle early on, for which the age range has become even wider, including the younger generation. Your chiropractor will perform a full evaluation to determine the best approach for your care and will cater your treatment to your specific condition and needs.

At Chiropracticly Healthy, we strive to make your experience unique and memorable, tailored to your particular condition. To get you started, we will collect some personal information. We will need you to bring a few documents:

  • Driver’s License or a form of identification
  • Any medical documentation related to the diagnosis and treatment of your condition, if available (medication list, hospital discharge paperwork, imaging reports, etc.)
  • Accident/Injury claims forms and paperwork, if available

After collecting your demographic information, you will be required to complete documentation that will give us a better understanding of your present complaint and past medical history. Once your intake documentation is completed, you will watch a short video that will give you a better understanding of what chiropractic care is and what we can do to help.
The doctor will then proceed to complete your consultation, and then your full examination. Your examination will include observation, palpation, range of motion evaluation, orthopedic testing as needed, as well as muscle and dermatomal testing. This comprehensive evaluation, as well as in-depth postural analysis, will give us the tools to design your customized treatment plan.

The doctor will go over your consultation and examination findings with you, to discuss the plan through journey Destination Wellness, the day after your initial visit. Then, the doctor will proceed with your first adjustment and treatment. During your first treatment, the doctor might use different techniques to achieve the adjustment’s main goal – give motion back to your joints, to allow your body to heal better; at which point you might hear a “popping” sound. You’ve likely seen videos of adjustments with an abundance of loud pops and cracks. During your adjustment, small spaces open up in your joints, encouraging the release of pressure, thus allowing enough space for Nitrogen Oxide gas to escape. This satisfying noise is called Joint Cavitation.

Actually no, the effectiveness of your adjustment relies on the skills of your chiropractor, and the absence of the sound doesn’t mean something went wrong. We cannot wait to help you through your journey to Wellness and a better quality of life!

Dr. Sugeily Davila

Chiropractor

Dr. Sugeily Davila was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. However,  she lived most of her life in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She finished her undergraduate studies on December 2012 in General Biology. Just a few weeks after, she moved to Pasadena, Texas, to pursue her chiropractic degree. She completed a second bachelor’s degree in Human Biology, and obtained her doctoral degree on April 16, 2016, from Texas Chiropractic College. She fell in love with the state, the people, and the culture which prompted her to stay here permanently. Since then, for over 6 years she has shown passion and dedication to changing the health of the community by educating and providing top-quality chiropractic care. Dr. Davila is well-versed in the Diversified Manipulative Therapy technique, Sacro-occipital techniques, Thompson Drop technique and has Gonstead adjustment knowledge. She recently completed a Certified Chiropractic Pediatrics program. She has adjusted kids as old as two days, and adults as young as 97 years old. She firmly believes that “Regular adjustments are part of improving our health holistically, so I enjoy being part of every patient’s journey to a healthier lifestyle.”

Dr. Davila came to Texas with one goal in mind; to pursue her chiropractic career inspired by a particular event in her life that changed how she perceived healthcare. “Culturally, chiropractic care in my island was more of a luxury and not as widely sought after, as it is in this particular place and time,” she says. “I had a major knee injury when I was 18 years old, that resulted from playing basketball and practicing martial arts. After many unsuccessful orthopedic treatments, when other doctors had no other recommendation for treatment than surgery, my mom decided to seek alternative care. This introduced me to Chiropractic Medicine, and I fell in love since day one”. She also added, “I learned that pain is NOT a normal process, but we get used to it when we shouldn’t. My goal is to change that mentality: Pain is not normal, and we need to work towards having a better quality of life.”

In her free time, Dr. Davila enjoys writing and playing music. When she is not singing, playing guitar, or Puerto Rican “cuatro”; she enjoys DIY projects, as well as cooking and experimenting with new ingredients. She enjoys traveling with her family and friends and traveling back home to enjoy time at the beach. Dr. Davila says the one food she always keeps stocked in her refrigerator is cheese. Other than being a well-rounded doctor, and an entrepreneur, she enjoys spending time with her English Bulldog Bella, and her cats, mischievous Xena and antisocial Luna. She is fluent in both Spanish and English.
